We will soon begin a weekly Holmes Homework Help program on Mondays starting Oct. 4 from 3 - 4 p.m. at the school on Newburgh just south of the church. The great news is that you don’t have to have a degree in education or be a math whiz to help. You simply need to be a caring adult who wants to support the youth of our community. Volunteers will provide a sympathetic ear and sit in with 7th grade students as they complete their homework assignments at the end of the school day.
Contact Lisa Schmidt if you would like to know more.Mark your calendars: This year’s Crop Walk is Sunday, Oct. 3.
During 2010, St. Timothy will continue to provide financial assistance through Presbyterian World Mission to Michael and Nancy Haninger in the Congo.
Since 2000, the Haningers have served the Good Shepherd Hospital in Tshikaji, where Mike is an ob-gyn physician.
Besides training medical students, he also does direct patient care and public health work, with special concern for the prevention and repair of obstetric fistulas.
Nancy, a health educator, promotes the use of highly nutritious leaves of the moringa tree to combat malnutrition.
St. Timothy has had a long partnership with Westminster Church of Detroit.
On several Saturdays each year, members of our Men’s Association go to Westminster to cook nutritious lunches for the elderly, the lonely, families and individuals with needs, the homeless and adult foster care residents.
St. Timothy members also go to Westminster on Thanksgiving Eve to carve turkeys and prepare the fixings for the nearly 3,000 people the church will feed the next day.
As part of our Mission commitment for 2010, our church will provide direct financial support to help Westminster and Artheillia Thompson, its Director of Community Ministry, meet the growing need for food and spiritual support within the local community.
